We would like to welcome our newest Fly Legacy Aviation team member – Erica Carter.
Erica Carter: I am so excited to join Fly Legacy Aviation as a certified flight instructor! I’ve always had a love of flying since I was a child and growing up my family moved around the country frequently. I came to feel so comfortable and safe on planes as if they were a second home. I always admired pilots for their skill and calm and they seemed to me larger-than-life characters. As I went through life it was always in the back of my mind as something I’d love to do, but to be honest I’d never seen a female pilot and so I assumed it was an avenue not for women. In 2020 I went to visit my mom in Kansas City and we took a trip to Amelia Earhart’s childhood home in Atchison, Kansas. It inspired me to come back to Philadelphia and get started on this dream of mine. I was determined to become a pilot! I’m so glad that I chose Fly Legacy Aviation for my flight instruction. Everyone from the front desk to the maintenance crew to my instructors nurtured, encouraged and supported me every step of the way. I struggled and had setbacks and failures and many times I wanted to give up or thought, “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this.” If it weren’t for everyone at Fly Legacy, including my fellow flight students, I doubt I’d have made it to this point. I’m looking forward to taking everything I’ve learned and sharing it with my future students. I want to encourage and support them, the way I was and instill in them the love and fun of aviation. I’m so thankful to my instructors Declan, Luca and Jim. Alex and Sebastian for their continued support. Kristina and Jen for their unending encouragement and help along the way. Becoming a safe and proficient pilot isn’t easy and it has been one of the most challenging goals I’ve tackled thus far, but the rewards are indescribable. I can’t wait to start teaching and continue to learn and become a better pilot every day.
