A good instructor is one that teaches beyond a standard textbook.

One of the most important steps in learning to fly is choosing the right flight instructor. Feeling comfortable with an instructor is what makes learning to fly a great experience. During flight training, a student and instructor spend a great deal of time together within a close proximity. While in the enclosed space of an aircraft’s cockpit/flight station, it is very important to remember any differences between each other’s personality can lead to differences in interactions and outcomes. When choosing an instructor, use personal judgment and intuition. Ideally, you want to select someone who is not only easy to interact with but who also shares the same methods of communication.
