September 2020 – My 17 year old son received his private pilot’s license from Fly Legacy Aviation this summer. His flight instructor, Declan, went above and beyond his responsibilities to help him to become a great pilot. Declan’s supervisor, Sebastian, held our son to high standards during check rides, pushing him to be his best, and many of the Legacy staff members were great sources of encouragement along the way. I would definitely recommend this program to others.
September 2020 – I just completed my PPL in less than 3 months, I couldn’t be happier with Fly Legacy they will prepare you to be a Pilot in less time than you can imagine.
September 2020 – I just got my PPL! – I couldn’t be more satisfied with my training. Legacy Aviation has great instructors who really care about their students. I’ll be back for more ratings! 🙂
August 2020 – A few days ago I passed my private pilot checkride after training at Legacy. My entire experience at Legacy was wonderful and I felt supported and safe the whole time. If you’re in the Philly area and have always dreamed of learning to fly, as I have, I would definitely recommend Fly Legacy!
August 2020 – Fly legacy Aviation is one the best flight school in Philadelphia, they accommodate to all your needs and the flight instructors always work their schedule around your schedule. I will definitely return for my instrument.
August 2020 – I just completed my private pilot training with Legacy, and I could not be happier with the quality of education I received. From day one, it felt like everyone at the school wanted me to succeed, and would do what ever they could to help me obtain my goal. The staff is top notch, in every department. The instructors are extremely knowledgable, and professional. The maintenance team is second to none, and keep the entire fleet maintained to a very high standard. The scheduling, and billing department is amazing as well. They are both very understanding, and flexible, and will work with you when ever you need. The best part about the entire staff at Legacy is how when you walk through the door every morning, the entire staff knows who you are, and are happy to see you. As I stated before, they all want to see you succeed, and will do what ever they can to help make your dream a reality. Without a doubt, I will be getting my Instrument, Commercial, and Multi-engine licenses with Legacy. I would 100% recommend this school. If you want to learn how to fly, this is the place to do it.
August 2020 – I recently completed my Private Pilot training at Legacy. I have nothing but great things to say about the school, the staff, and the instructors. The planes are well maintained and availability of the fleet is good. The school follows a rigorous syllabus, which means you can change instructors if necessary without losing progress. The location at KPNE airport means you’ll learn to deal with ATC like a pro. I had the pleasure of flying with 5 of the instructors during my primary training, and took positives away from my time with each of them. Thanks Legacy for helping me earn my Private Pilot license!
August 2020 – Fly Legacy Aviation is a great flight school full of professional people who’s main goal is success of its students! I have switched flight schools over to Legacy Aviation and have not regretted the decision ever since. With the help and support of Legacy instructors, I was able to successfully pass an instrument checkride in July of 2020. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wishes to start their flight training or is looking to tryout flying! Their competitive pricing and a variety of aircrafts makes them standout in the northeast region! I am looking forward to continuing my path with Legacy to work towards my Commercial, and CFI certificates!
July 2020 – I just got my PPL a few days ago after training with my instructor John Dixon, at Legacy. I still can’t believe That I am able to fulfill my childhood dreams of being a pilot has become true. People at legacy are very professional and easy going. Looking forward to continuing my training with Legacy!
June 2020 – As a college student, I started flight school last August at Legacy. Sadly, after only 9 hours of flight time I had to leave for college and shift flight schools. In March, due to coming home for spring break, I scheduled with John (the instructor I started flying with last August) for a couple of lessons. After the transition to remote classes, I shifted back to Fly Legacy to finish up my private pilot license. John, James and Dzmitry got me into perfect shape for my checkride. Everyone at Fly Legacy Aviation is very nice and professional. Next step is my instrument rating, and I am looking forward to completing it with Fly Legacy Aviation!
June 2020 – Fly Legacy is a great flight school comprised of great people. I never thought I would ever have the opportunity to pursue my childhood dream of learning to fly. I certainly never thought I could pursue it while working full-time and becoming a mom (and especially with the uncertainty of the global pandemic). Legacy’s kind and helpful staff, instructors, and maintenance crew made it possible. I was able to add lessons around my work schedule and slowly work toward my private pilot license. I highly recommend Fly Legacy for flight training and specifically recommend James Kim as an instructor.
June 2020 – I decided to go with Fly Legacy because they were the closest airport to me that offered multi-engine training. I already had a VFR multi but needed to do the add on to get the VFR removed. They worked with me to the ” T” with exactly what i needed for training. The instructors were courteous and professional. Emails went out all the time if a plane was down for maintenance and updates from the virus on when the school was re-opening and protocols. Any future training I may need i will certainly use Fly Legacy again! Awesome flight school and an awesome group of people. Thank you Fly Legacy in helping me complete my multi-instrument add on rating!
March 2020 – I want to thank Legacy Aviation school for given opportunities and special thank you to instructors James Zararis, Bob Davido and chief pilot/instructor Sebastian Strzyzewski. ✈ Thank you for your support and help with everything.
March 2020 – Great price, Great Teacher. Amazing experience.
May 2020 – I’ve always wanted to learn to fly since I was a kid, when I finally decided to pursue my aviation dream I chose the Flight Legacy Aviation. I could not be more than happy with this flight school! All the instructors are fantastic! They have been excellent at working with my schedule, and helping with any topic I need a little more help with during training. And my primary CFI Declan has been an absolute pleasure to work with! For anyone who wants to learn to fly or advance to IFR, Commercial or Multi-Engine, I highly recommend contacting the Fly Legacy Aviation! Currently I’m using this place for renting an airplane. Very satisfied with service and ease of the renting process.
January 2020 – I just passed my check ride and finished my training for a private license with Legacy Aviation. I would highly recommend Legacy to anyone who is considering flight training. The instructors and staff are terrific group of people and go above and beyond! My instructor spent a ton of time with me answering questions and making sure I had what I needed for the check ride. The head flight instructor is also terrific and very focused on training students to be safe and to have the knowledge and skills to get their certificates. The program is really great and prepared me well for every phase of the training. I am really glad a chose Legacy!
October 2019 – CFI Rating. Highly recommend anyone looking for a flight school here in Philadelphia. The entire staff is extremely professional, very knowledgeable, and provide top notch training. I was most impressed with how nice and personally invested each member of the staff was with me. From the chief pilot to the COO, they all knew where I was in my training and it made me feel like they genuinely cared about my success. Highly recommend to anyone from beginners looking to start their private pilot training, to experienced pilots looking to add on more advanced ratings.
September 2019 – Great flight school with awesome administration and high quality training. They are expanding rapidly with about 12,13 instructors and 10,11 airplanes of different types. Right now they are eligible for private, instrument, commercial and multi engine training. The Chief Operating Officer, Alex, is also very responsible, helpful and responsive to any problem I have. My instructor James Zararis is super professional, devoted and responsible. I finished my private pilot training last week and look forward to start my instrument training soon.
It has been an absolute pleasure and I can recommend this flying school to the highest standard, it has done everything possible to get me through this course in this amount of time. They were absolutely fabulous and I can’t wait to go back there to do my next ratings as they are the one and only flight school to do the training at.
After scheduling and after taking the intro flight everything felt very professional . I got started and finished getting a PPL. I definitely recommend Legacy Aviation because of the great instructors and admin and also a great choice of airplanes with availability to fit everybody’s busy schedules. If your looking to get started with flying this is definitely the place to start.
I attended Legacy Aviation’s school on dec. 31st and became a licensed private pilot July 29th. The school itself is very well setup in its curriculum and they train you beyond the expectations of the FAA and their examiners. Through Legacy, I was able to feel confident in my ability to become a pilot. I would recommend attending Legacy, especially as a new student pilot.
Legacy Aviation is an amazing flight school and they leave nothing to chance I spent 8 weeks there with a friend and we both walked away with a Private Pilots licence and had absolutely no hassle, the staff are amazing my Instructor Antony Scott in particular was brilliant plus the Head Instructor Sebastian at the school makes regular checkrides with you that are stricter than the final exam so that when you go for the final exam you are almost guaranteed to pass, Alex the General manager is about as helpful as he is organised and made sure that everything was set up well enough that we never had a wasted moment at the school. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Legacy and would recommend to any aspiring Aviator.
I came to Legacy aviation after spending a lot of time and a lot of money at a different flight school. What I noticed at the previous flight school is that I had multiple flight instructors who were constantly changing. My desire was to have one flight instructor who could really care about me and my success. I found Legacy aviation to fit the bill. From the very beginning I was assured by Alex that I was at the right place. Although I only needed a few instructions in order to get to my private check ride my instructor took very good care of me. He treated me as if he had worked with me since the very beginning. He corrected some mistakes of mine and taught me a lot of good information. On Monday, March 4, 2019 I passed my check ride with the help of Legacy aviation. I think there an A+ company and I wish them continued success.
Great flight school. Great CFIs and admins. Chief pilot spent 2 hours with me before my checkride quizzing me with questions out of the good of his heart.
I bought my boyfriend of 2 years introductory flight lessons for his birthday and I was blown away by the efficiency and accommodation of this place. The flight instructor was clear and concise on his instructions and assistance. As far as I saw, the instructors were all well educated and admirable. This business deserves as much respect as anyone could give them for what they do. They also offer flight lessons and a chance to get your pilots license. Outstanding! I would absolutely come here again and recommend anyone who wants to learn how to fly.
This is an excellent place to get your annual done or any maintenance needed for your aircraft. Jim Cherry the head of maintenance really knows his stuff better than any A&P IA I’ve dealt with through aircraft ownership in the last 15 years. He really opened up my eyes to some things that other mechanics had been missing or turning a blind eye to on our Cherokee archer. Definitely recommend the maintenance team here.
Legacy Aviation runs a well organized program. I’m doing my flight instruction there. My instructor Gene Nicolo has a tight plan to keep my training focused. I have already recommended Legacy Aviation and instructor Gene to a friend.
I looked at a few schools and for a variety of reasons its worth the hour drive to train at Legacy. Everyone is very helpful and my instructor Patrick is fantastic.
I’ve trained at most, if not all of the surrounding flight schools and found Legacy to be the best one suited for me. Costs were cheaper and Instructors can’t be beat. Syllabus is with Sporty’s, which I also use. People here are friendly and military discounts are available. As a military veteran, I try and support those that support our military brethren.
Since my airplane is housed at KPNE, it is quite convenient for me to have my aircraft and engine maintenance done at the airport. Although I was initially apprehensive when Legacy Aviation opened their maintenance shop, Jim Cherry and his team quickly put me at ease. They communicate exceptionally well and provide me options and recommendations as appropriate. They are always professional, thorough, and safety-oriented. I trust them to maintain my plane, and they’ve earned that trust based on their performance and customer service. I highly recommend the Legacy Aviation Maintenance shop!
Tried their shop for an alternator repair. Quick turnaround and a fair price.
Frankly I had moved my aircraft maintenance off the field after Herb’s passing, since I didn’t know the new FBO, and nobody really reached out to welcome me as a new client. After speaking with Alex repeatedly, and seeing Jim Cherry’s work and dedication, I can now recommend Legacy to others who may have gone elsewhere for aircraft maintenance after Herb Hortman’s passing. Kudos to Jim Cherry and the shop.
Give them a try. They may have gotten off to a slow start, but I believe they have hit their groove. I will be trying their flight instructors shortly and will comment on that as well. So far, A+ in Aircraft Maintenence a fresh new welcoming attitude. 👍👍👍
Val and I want you to know how pleased we are with the professional work Jim Cherry did for us when our airplane needed major servicing in July this year.
Jim was a diagnostician, a mechanic, a teacher, a supporter and a counselor. At every stage in the process, he made sure we understood the problems he had found in the engine, what the possible causes were, and what the possible solutions were. He respected our decision on how to proceed.
He consulted with Lycoming and two of our other mechanics, one who did all the warranty work and the normal servicing on our plane in Davis, California, and one in Lincoln, Nebraska, who recently diagnosed a fuel problem and correctly determined that our fuel servo needed servicing.
Both of those mechanics were impressed with Jim’s breadth of knowledge and experience.
After we took delivery of the airplane, it operated beautifully all the way home to California, including no longer being difficult to start the engine.
Jim, thanks again for your help.
I have started flying school here what can I say they are the best. I feel so comfortable taking the classes my instructor James takes the time to make sure I understand everything and is awesome. I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants to learn to fly.
I’m a student at Legacy Aviation and I’m very pleased with the school and my great instructor. I would definitely recommend this school.
Legacy is a great school to begin your pilot career! They work with you around your schedule to fit what’s best for you. Everybody there is nice and the instructors make you feel comfortable learning and flying.
Great school. Everyone is courteous and helpful. The planes are very well maintained and the instructors are great teachers. Highly recommend this school. It is also at a towered airport so you learn ATC off the bat which is invaluable!
Legacy Aviation has been a great place for me to get my private. Paula, at the front desk, is always helpful and courteous. The management team has just introduced the FSP app, which has been a great tool for both students and instructors to book appointments. Jim works very hard and is a great instructor with thousands of hours of experience. A+.
This 5-star rating for Legacy Aviation is a no-brainer. From Day 1 the entire staff has been nothing but helpful. My instructor, Daeshawn, always looks for ways for me to improve while making the experience fun and enjoyable. The front desk is enthusiastic and welcoming to everyone who walks through the door. I was able to fit the strict Part 141 program around my busy schedule as well as Legacy’s. After only 26 days of training (including some vacation days), I completed my first solo with confidence. Although I am part of an accelerated program (for the private pilot license), there are other options that accommodate every aspiring pilot. I recommend Legacy Aviation to anyone who either wants to go the next step in their pilot career (Private, Commercial, Instrument Rating, etc.) or to those who simply want to try it out. You will find that every instructor is there to help you reach your goals. They are here for you, not your money, and there are different financing options and even aid for those who need it. I continue to enjoy my experience, and the many different people I meet at Legacy is a testament to the excellence of its program.
Huge Thank You to Joseph Montone, who asked me what my inspiration was for taking this class. Otherwise, I would have never given a thought of why I really wanted to do this. Every moment at Legacy Aviation was a remarkable example of how the adventure should be like. Loved my experience of flying the plane for the first time. Great instructor with a sense of how to teach a newbie and answer all the questions.
Learning how to fly has been a long time goal of mine that I am finally working towards achieving thanks to Legacy Aviation. Although I had been interested in flight training for many years, without having any confidence in when and where to get started in the Philadelphia area, I was doing little to advance this goal. Last year, I asked a pilot friend of mine for help finding the right place to train in Philadelphia and that eventually resulted in me taking an introductory flight at Legacy Aviation. During the intro flight, we took off in one of the Warriors, flew out to the practice area, did some practice maneuvers and then returned for a landing. Afterwards the instructor spent time with me discussing the school, fleet, airport, curriculum, scheduling, expected cost and more. Most importantly the intro flight gave me the confidence I needed to get started.
I’m now training with Captain Joe Montone and am thrilled to say that I’m getting close to reaching my goal of becoming a pilot. While Joe has a wealth of aviation experience, it is his natural teaching ability that makes him really stand out as an instructor. Always relaxed and positive, Joe has helped me diligently work through some of those tougher flight training days like, for example, the days when I started learning crosswind landings. He keeps the training fun and often adds something unexpected, like a simulated engine out, that keeps me thinking and prepared. Joe also never lets safety off the top of my mind, as he constantly asks what alternatives would be available if something unexpected happened.
Aside from the excellent flight instruction, I’m happy to be training at Legacy for a number of other reasons as well. First, Legacy’s fleet of Piper Warriors make great trainer airplanes since they are well maintained and relatively easy to fly. Second, KPNE is a tower controlled airport situated near the busy KPHL Class B airspace. This has enabled me to develop confidence working with the KPNE tower and Class B controllers. KPNE’s large runways also gave me plenty of room when I was working on staying on the center line on the more gusty days or when I was fine tuning my landing flare. Third, Legacy’s flexible scheduling has allowed me to fit flight training into my busy schedule with weeknight lessons after work or lessons during the day on weekends.
After completing my private pilot license I am looking forward to flying many more hours at KPNE with Legacy. If you are considering flight training, I encourage you to take an introductory flight at Legacy Aviation.
I went for my Private Pilot license about 20 years ago and didn’t quite make it. This past February I went to Legacy Aviation at the Northeast Airport in Philadelphia, Pa. and asked if I could rent a plane with an Instructor and get back into flying again. I was referred to the Chief Pilot Joseph Montone who I have been flying with ever since.
The entire process from scheduling a flight at the front desk with Paula, Kwijah or Michael, who are always ready with dispatching the aircraft I will be flying to the classroom work and actual flying the aircraft makes the aviation experience very professional and FUN. The planes we fly are kept to current maintenance and safety standards plus clean inside and out and comfortable to fly.
My experience with Captain Joe Montone (Side Note I am 67 years young and may not be the easiest “student” to deal with) has been extremely FUN. Joe keeps it challenging and professional education and exciting with his calm cool “No Sweat” demeanor.
I look forward to logging on many hours of flight time and FUN with Captain Joe Montone and the entire crew at Legacy Aviation. Happy Flying!
On July 20, 2017 I finished my private pilot license at Legacy Aviation. The staff at Legacy are very welcoming and made me feel at home every time I walked in. Chief Pilot Joe Montone is professional, and all about safety. Those two things are the most important characteristics of a leader. The fleet is well maintained, and if we have any problems with our aircraft, the maintenance department is right on it. I’ve visited different flight schools in the past and none of them have made me feel as relaxed and at home. My CFI’s Adriano Maestri and Phillip Niess guided me through my training and made me the pilot I am today. My experience at Legacy Aviation was a great one, and I hope whoever reads this will experience the same!
My instructor, Patrick Jackson, was extremely professional and thorough and made me feel like I was in good hands. He is also friendly, which made lessons very enjoyable. The school’s flexibility and wide aircraft availability ensured I could make quick progress.
“If flight school is something you’ve been thinking about, I can say without reservation consider Legacy Aviation. They have a full range of options at competitive pricing, a competent and friendly staff and a full fleet of airplanes ready to go.”
“The CFI training I’m receiving at Legacy Aviation has been better than anything I could have expected. My instructor, Joseph Montone has gone out of his way to give me all the knowledge he has attained over the decades of flying.”
“Thanks for keeping me in the loop during the progression of Legacy and its opening! I look forward to being a part of its prosperous future! It was also wonderful to fly 11M again; so nice to have greased the landings! Great feeling to be back.”
This is due in large part to the help I received from the folks at Legacy Aviation, especially Chief Flight Instructor Joe Montone.
I started flight school in 2014 at Hortman Aviation but the school had to close due to the owner’s passing away. So I followed my instructor to another flight school, about a 45 minute ride away, and after some time there I became aware that Legacy Aviation had opened a Flight school at North East Philadelphia Airport. Since this is a short commute I called and asked for an interview with Joe and told him my situation.
The interview with Joe Montone was very positive and he agreed to take me on as a student. That was in December of 2016 and at the time I thought I might be ready to take the oral exam and final checkride for a Private Pilot License. We scheduled a lesson to gauge my readiness and found a few gaps. I’ll never forget Joe’s response to these findings, “We can fix this”. I’m thankful he did because I feel it made me a better pilot. All of the fights we did together were dedicated to making sure from a procedural standpoint things were done correctly. These included communications in Class Bravo airspace, emergency procedures, cross wind landings, and navigation to name a few and always with an approach to situational awareness.
So if flight school is something you’ve been thinking about, I can say without reservation consider Legacy Aviation. They have a full range of options at competitive pricing, a competent and friendly staff and a full fleet of airplanes ready to go.
The CFI training I’m receiving at Legacy Aviation has been better than anything I could have expected. My instructor, Joseph Montone has gone out of his way to give me all the knowledge he has attained over the decades of flying.
I appreciate that the flight school holds a higher standard of training for me and the other Legacy students. I feel that I’m being trained to be a role model versus someone there to solely teach a student to fly.
I’m grateful that my instructor is as motivated to see me succeed as I am. My biggest take away from this school is that it bases its own success from the success of their students.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop during the progression of Legacy and its opening! I look forward to being a part of its prosperous future! It was also wonderful to fly 11M again; so nice to have greased the landings!! Great feeling to be back. What a fabulous day Friday was. Good flight, good food, good people. Thanks a million!
