To celebrate Women’s History Month this March, Fly Legacy would like to honor all female aviators everywhere, and to shed some light on a couple of the most historical.
Baroness Raymonde de Laroche
The first woman to pilot a plane, as well as the first woman to obtain a pilot’s license in 1910. She received the 36th airplane pilot’s license issued by the Aeroclub de France, the world’s first organization to issue pilot licenses.
Willa Beatrice Brown
The first African American woman to obtain a pilot’s license in the year 1938, and was the first woman to obtain both a pilot’s license and an aircraft mechanic license. In addition to this, she was also the first African American to be in the Civil Air Patrol.
Katherine Cheung
One of the first Chinese women to receive a private pilot’s license, and the first Chinese woman to obtain an international pilot’s license. In 1932, she became the first licensed Asian-American female pilot in the United States.
