My name is Dionis Deleon and I’m a new CFI at fly legacy aviation! I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and my family’s ethnic background is from the beautiful island of Dominican Republic. My aviation career began in 2013.
Let me start off by saying that flying was always a dream of mine. My passion for flying can be traced back to when my mom would take me and my brother to summer vacations. Bet you didn’t know I have an identical twin and were both pilots. Who would have thought! Anyway, we would travel to the Dominican Republic to visit family and our mode of travel would be on an airplane. I remember every time the flight crew would let me look inside of the cockpit and I would be amazed. Looking at the light switches and the flight crew being so nice to let me sit on the flight seat would make me have dreams to become a pilot one day. My mom saw the excitement every time we air travel and would buy me airplane toy models for Christmas.
That’s where things took off. Growing up I would make frequent visits to the local airports and watch airplanes take off and land. Yes, landings were my favorite part. I would talk to folks who were training for their pilot license and always ask questions about flying and their experience. Being only a young teen and not being able to start flight training, I would play flight simulator just so I can live the dream goal for the moment of flying an airplane. After school I couldn’t wait to get home and flight sim. After homework of course. Role playing being an airline captain for American Airline because that was the airline my mom would go on. Her favorite. Once I had the opportunity to start flight training, I fell in love with it. Started flying in the mighty Cessna Skyhawk 172 and the rest is history. Or so they say. Training was great.
I learned so much throughout the years of flying and made great friends along the way. As of Aug 2020, I became a CFI and excited to open new doors for individuals who want to explore the rewards that aviation has to offer. Only having only about 2 years of teaching and 800 hrs of flight however for me learning never stops. As pilots, we learn and grow with each and every flight. Blue skies!
