One of our amazing instructors, Shavana has achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an airline pilot at Republic Airways and has accepted a position as a first officer in the ERJ-175.
Shavana has been with Fly Legacy Aviation since 2019 after attending Delaware State University where she obtained all of her licenses from private pilot to CFII, as well as a degree in Aviation. Shavana has broken many barriers at Delaware State University by being 1 of only 3 African American women to graduate from the school’s program and was the most recent within the last 15 years.

Shavana has been an amazing instructor, graduating over 6 students at Fly Legacy and is going to be greatly missed. We’re so excited to hear all about her future accomplishments. From all of us at Fly Legacy, thank you!
Air travel demand has been continuing to rise in the United States due to the lifting of restrictions and the rollout of several COVID-19 vaccines. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), we are back to 50% of pre-covid travel levels. We’re thrilled to see that airlines like American, Delta and United have resumed and are ramping up their hiring. The industry is continuing to rebound after the 2020 pandemic and we couldn’t be more hopeful that it’s nothing but clear skies ahead.
A message from one of Shavana’s successful students:
“Thanks for everything over the last year. I feel like a better, more confident pilot from your instruction. Congrats on getting a job at Republic. I hope to see you around the airport one of these days.” – Kevin Charyszyn
